If money is the only responsible factor for quality
education; Nepalese can never afford the quality education.
Tribhuwan University schedules examination of Engineering on
time, declares result on time; after all it costs more than Three hundred
thousand for a single student to get into it
. But; if a student decides to go
for the education of B.Sc, neither examination not result is scheduled. BBA
Program of TU is conducted on scheduled basis. For even semester, the
examination begins from a month before Dashara vacation; and for odd it ends by
the end of year. Result will be out within three months of the examination.
Annually, more than 1300 students are enrolled in TU’s BBA program and it costs
at least two hundred and sixty thousand to complete the Bachelor Program. If
the students fail to get seat in TU’s BBA program, and decides to study BBS
instead; his examination date and result is never scheduled. A student studying
BBA, 4 year course gets out in the month of Mangshir; while his friend studying
BBS, 3 year course in Ashwin of the same year. One year of difference in
theory, is simply three month difference in reality.
This has created silver lining between the bunch of clouds
and rest of the sky. Those who can afford can go for quality education with
certainty to rain after sometime, while those who can’t remains out in the sky;
with no certainty, whether to get mixed with some clouds or get lost somewhere.
Limitation of students can be defending statements; but that can be no excuse
as there is large number of teachers employed as well. It is understandable
that the teacher taking class for BBA earns at least five hundred per class,
while that of BBS earns less than hundred and fifty. And this certainly sets
the discrimination among the teacher teaching in two programs.
This must be accepted that TU falls under the richest
university as well. Calculation of lands and buildings of TU itself can prove
it. There are lands at peak places in valley and across the country that
belongs to TU, where the classes are conducted. This proves that TU certainly
is not under financial crisis for sure.
Despite the fact there are regional headquarters all around;
their effectiveness has not yet been judged. Answer sheet of Kathmandu can
reach Nepalgunj; while that of Nepalgunj can reach somewhere at Bhadrapur. It
automatically delays the result process. Teachers are provided with limited
time for checking the answers; but the answer sheet itself arrives late in the
hand of teacher. Maybe this is the reason, why even after the year of
examination; results are not out!
Politics within the campus can be debatable issue. But,
unless the student enrolled decides that he is in the University Education;
rather than politics, he fails to achieve good education and remains nowhere
after he is out from the college. While his friends receive a good job, he will
still be around the college shaking hands with those new fresher who are ten
batches junior to them. I am not against politics in university; but a student
should rather prefer studying Political Science if he wants to develop his
future in Politics and be a leader. Students politics should be limited within
their student life itself; they should not aim for it in long term vision for
sure.
They say, TU has professors; and lack professionals. Hence,
the old professors deliver their class in the pattern they studied. Unless
professionals are also brought, the education can never improve. Both
professors and professionals actually make the education better. Only then
student get to learn in practical manner. It can suit for a professor to
explain the barriers at the time of conducting business from the theory he
learnt, but the student can never understand entire set unless professional
explains the obstacle he actually faced during the time of doing business.
Studying in Stanford is expensive as well. This can be next
issue and then. But this has to be understood that once students get enrolled
in Stanford he secures his future as well. It costs around fifteen hundred
thousand Indian Currency to study in Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad
(IIM-A); but it ensures job placement and the student can be assured that his
entire investment can be covered within couple of years. How many students
studying MBA Program is sure that he will be getting a good job placement? Nepalese
students wish to fly abroad or nearby for education itself proves that despite
of the high charge they pay, there is not huge difference.
This has to be understood that Education is a business as
well. But, the business aims for customer satisfaction, and the customer has to
get satisfied in the end. Despite of charging the high amount; when students
are not satisfied with the price they afford, it is purely unfair practice of
business. And for those who believe that it is high amount that has made
Stanford or IIM qualitative; there is a note that Delhi University’s Faculty of
Management Studies (FMS) charges Eleven Thousand and Five Hundred IC per year
for MBA, and the student gets MBA degree with Twenty Three Thousand IC in
couple of years; and the degree is worldwide recognized. This system at least
ensures that deserving students get to study. Poor hard working student can
make an attempt to give entrance, but unless you have three hundred thousand in
your hand, you cannot even think of giving entrance for TU’s MBA.
Many Nepalese dream for going FMS, IIM or Stanford. How many
foreign dream of TU’s MBA? Forget foreign students, how many Nepalese dream of
studying TU’s MBA? Only a bunch, who have restrictions in going out. I am
planning for MBA, but TU certainly would not be my first choice; because first
thing I have to pay the huge amount, and second despite of paying that huge
amount my placement is not sure. At the time, when the University does not feel
responsible for assuring proper Internship program itself, placement issue is
out of concern in reality. And, with this set of old tradition, it is hard for
TU’s education quality to improve no matter how rich they are.
