Pondicherry, also known by the name of Pudducherry is one
beautiful place in South India. They say it mini Goa too. What is there so
special? This blog post tries to cover my experiences and information about
this small state of India.
Auro Beach
This beach is stupid - in fact worse. But, there are no other
beaches in Pondy as cheap as this beach, so either you spend your entire budget
on some good beach, or you stay here, that is around five times cheaper than
other beach. This beach lies in Tamilnadu, and not the union territory. There
are cottages around the beach, where you can stay or even hotels if you want to
stay in room. There is darkness during the night, so you have to depend on your
mobile light. So, if you love to drink in the beach, this beach is suitable for
anyone.

Auro Villa
From Auro beach, it is around 7 kms away, and if you rent
any vehicle you go on your own. This auto driver will charge you Rs 300 for two
way movement, and in this very amount you can rent scooter for 24 hours. The
road is silent, without much vehicle movement either. There's big golden ball,
they said it was for meditation, in between the forest. The environment is
good, and you can spend some peaceful time there.

French Colony/Rocky Beach
This beach is not that expensive either. But, still
expensive than Auro beach. It is family beach, and cleaner one. The evening
time of this beach is so wonderful. Good thing about this beach is - people are
not allowed to drink here, making it safer and peaceful for family members. You
can't take bath or play with the waves because of too many rocks, but it's all
about beauty that you can enjoy. French Colony is the place you need to pass
through before entering into this beach, and you will see it so wonderful. We
normally spend our evening time here, and after 9.30 get back to Auro Beach,
which is around 7 kms away from here.

Paradise Beach
This is the best beach there. However, expensive. There are
beautiful places, like room at the tree, or in between the water where you can
spend your day and night. If for honeymoon couple, this beach is for them.
Then, one has to travel through this artificial lake to reach the beach paying
certain amount - this reduces the population of the beach and helps to make the
beach clean. You get to see blue water here. You can drink if you want in the
beach, but again it's expensive!
Crocodile Park
Do you love riding? Take a bike and get enough fuel. Now
travel 110 km ahead at Crocodile Park, which lies just 35 kms away from
Chennai. There are lot of crocodiles, somewhere around thousand of them, mostly
hidden inside and different types of crocodiles here. You will get to see them.
They say, they even send crocodiles from this palce to Nepal. But, it's
basically about the bike riding experience that you will love. Try your best,
not to let your bike owner that you went there, else they will charge you even
more. But, if you want to go by bus to this place, I suggest not to, rather
visit here once you are at Chennai.
Crocodiles! |
Bikes/Scooty
If you own license from any part of the world, don't
hesitate to take a bike. Even if you don't own it, take it, just make sure you
won't ride at off hours and let police to suspect you. Even if you are caught,
you can escape bribing around Rs 200. It's suggestible to take an auto or bike
and travel around places, as this is small state, you can visit all places
within a day if you manage your time properly and if you own your rented
vehicle.
We were all set for long ride! |
Aregga!
These Ugandan friends of mine term it Aregga! It's actually
drinks - alcohol. They are cheap here, not as cheap as Goa but still cheap. You
get to buy bottle of beer at Rs 69 (when MRP at Andhra was 105) and you get to
see big stores of liquors from place to place. There are different varieties of
alcohol here and you get to taste it at least price.
Check the price of the one with highest price! |
It's momo in their style! |
This is how they prepare salt! |
On the way to Auro Villa |
Again caged crocodiles |
We had to wait because the fuel of one bike was over! |
