Okay, India did not call Pakistani
artists to Bollywood, they came by their own choice. But does that mean
they came illegally? Like Salman Khan quoted, Pakistani artists came to
India with permission and VISA issued by Government of India.
The burning disputes among two South
Asian nations, be it for any reason has been affecting entire South
Asian countries at present. Cancellation of SAARC summit could be given
as prime example about how entire SAARC had impact. Apart, the burning
tension among two nations is equally troubling other nations regarding
the side to be taken. This political clash among two nations led to
hatred among two nations, and after Indian Motion Picture Producer
Association on Thursday passed a resolution on banning Pakistani artists
and technicians from Bollywood industry - the internal clash appeared
on the wider screen.
Bollywood is the centre of for movies in
entire Asia. The number of movies made, revenue granted to Government
annually and the profit generated out of movies must be enough to
illustrate the entire picture of its strength. While Medias are regarded
as fourth part of Indian body, cricket fifth, it is Bollywood that has
been regarded sixth part of Indian body.
This multi-billion dollar business is no
longer associated with India - as it has been bringing impact
throughout South Asia and different other parts of the world too. Apart
from it, Bollywood has proved itself to be the hub of intelligent,
skilled, professional and experts. From Nepalese artists like Udit
Narayan Jha to Afghan artists like Kadar Khan; or be it Jacqueline
Fernandez of Sri Lanka to Nargis Fakhri of America - they have been
doing their best to make Bollywood more qualitative and worthy. Also,
the world wide release and earning from other nations excluding India
has proved Bollywood bigger than Indian territory. The craze of Bachhan
is not limited within India, as my family always turns out eager to see
him in television in Nepal. Be it in local buses of Kathmandu, or pubs
in Pokhara of Nepal, there are Bollywood tracks being played indicating
Bollywood has something to do far beyond India too.
Now, the decision taken by IMPPA
appeared as if every Pakistani citizen is a terrorist - be it some kid
going to school, or some actor performing in movies. The world is
against terrorism, it is understandable, but how can state be rude
towards citizen of different nation? Does this mean - if conflict
between China and India pops out - every Indian from China should be
kicked out? Article 2 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
clearly states that no discrimination shall be made to anyone of any
sovereignty. There have been diplomatic issues between several nations,
also between Nepal and India in the last year, but none of the artists
spoke anything making political remarks. Artists have their own tasks to
perform - they are not terrorists. Hollywood probably will never
boycott Priyanka Chopra just because she is an Indian for any political
reason.
Insult of Pakistani actors in India led
to ban of Bollywood movies in Pakistan. Islamabad has banned
broadcasting of Indian TV Channels in Pakistan instructing strict
actions to be taken if any operator does not implement this after
October 15. Pakistan certainly used to be small but it is the good
market for Bollywood industry. I won't be wrong if I said - Pakistanis
were more interested in Bollywood than South Indians. This small market
seems to be at stake right now, and probably a loss, be it for short
term. It's Indian movie industry who will have to suffer in the long
run. Maybe, after Bollywood actors realized this - they condemned the
decision. Bollywood experts have regarded these Pakistani celebs as
'jewel' to the industry after all, and their returning back will
certainly bring impact. For short term, the movies where they had role
will have to suffer, and for long term Bollywood industry might lose
these jewels. Ban of Indian channels on the other hand, will certainly
bring loss to Pakistan as well.
There are diplomatic relations, and
there can be misunderstandings and conflict among the nations. Nepal too
had diplomatic issue with India last year. The heated blood within
Nepalese tried to boycott Indian movies too, but state never provoked in
it. Despite the hatred among Nepalese towards Indian policy, people had
been playing Bollywood tracks in shops, buses, cafes and pubs as well.
It was an art that was appreciated, despite short-term hatred,
creativity; innovation was always appreciated by general people
throughout the country. Maybe, that was the reason - people even watched
Bollywood movies during that time, did not miss any good Hindi numbers.
What does general public want? It is the
prime question. Does Bollywood audience really want to ignore Pakistani
artists? Or, does Pakistani audience really don't want to see Indian
channels in Pakistan? State had to play key role before implementation
of any decision. Patriotism is good, in fact very good; but patriotism
cannot be practised by hurting ego of others. Patriotism should not
guide to hate others in the name of loving ourselves.
Art field like cinemas, music should
rather be imposed for unification more than division. Unlike cricket,
art is not anything competitive where one has to be defeated. Movies and
music unite people and make them stand with one strong position. They
should be kept aloof from political issues. Apart, every Pakistanis
should not be termed terrorists - and the number of deaths of innocents
in Pakistan should also be analyzed. Both world wars came to an end
through peaceful agreement. Sooner or later, both India and Pakistan
should come to some concrete decisions. Hence, it is important for
everyone to play role from their point at this time. Media should be
sensitive and rather than provoking war, should seek ways to find mutual
agreements. Every individual needs to understand that policy and person
are two different aspects.
We all are against terrorism. The world
is against terrorism. But - for these reasons it's unwise to see every
individual differently. While the economic blockade imposed by India on
Nepal, I was in India and while the hatred among two nations was getting
global perspective, I was in India, living with full dignity. No one
told me to return back. Should I now fear - if anything as such happens
again - I will be told to return back? India is a big democratic
nation and should have understood these principles of democracy and
freedom.
It is important to respect every
individual. And we hope Pakistani celebrities will be called back sooner
to Bollywood industry and would be granted the required respect. It
could be something stupid to imagine arts - being biased to ethnicity,
religion, culture. An art does not have any boundary.
