10 October is marked as the World
Day Against the Death Penalty. I oppose the death penalty in all cases.
A state has to bear the responsibility to protect and promote their citizens
rights. When, the penalty of death is declared by the State itself, how can
that be so practical in assuring Human Rights?
A simple sense…
A son gives his half of the salary
to his father every month. He one day does something that he should not have
done. Can the father kill the son? State is father for every citizen. Every
citizens pay taxes to the state and, for criminal activity, can state legally
kill someone? In the name of Peace?
Death penalty invites crime, rather
than discouraging the crime. There can be other ways to punish the culprit, but
state has no right to violate the freedom of life. If state itself involes in
this task, state itself is going through Human Rights Violation. The state who
legalizes Death Penalty is no way supportive to Human Rights.
He killed 100 of peoples! He
should be hanged till death!
It is easy saying this. Emotionally his line
can be correct too, because there can be large number of anger, feeling of hatred
and feeling of frustration. But, that
does not mean, state has the power to kill the culprit violating his right to
live. The emotional part has to be kept aside in this case, and following
thoughts has to be taken into consideration:
- Does state has ethical right to kill its own citizen? It’s like, should a father kill his child?
- Does state has the power to violate someone’s Right to Live? Article 3 of UDHR states, Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. Now how ethical is it for state itself to go against this article?
- Does death solve problem? Life is not a movie, where the villain ends up with sentence to death. There are consequences ahead.
- What if the decision made was mistake? Can the life return back? A case in China: After years of ‘hang to death’ decision, it was identified that the person was innocent. How can state body answer at that time?
Since, a person has killed 7
innocent peoples; Government has decided to sentence him ‘Hang till Death’ and
is hanged till death. Is that HR Violation?
53% of the people said, it is not
the case of HRV. That indicates, people still think it fair for the country to
kill the culprit.
It’s World Day Against the Death Penalty. And,
my blog all concerns with a single thought…
Let’s all say NO TO DEATH PENALTY!!

I personally think that one doesn't have the right to take life, even it it was for a punishment. Death, as a punishment, is always termed as an EASY way out to me, this includes "lifetime imprisonment" which is not at all related to this topic. Anyhow, coming back to the topic, Death Penalties doesnt give justice to the death caused by the person, nor is it something that anyone should practice. Let nature do its course when it comes to birth and death!! There are other harsh-full punishments besides deaths!!
Yes! I think the same! Yeah' there are other means of punishment... Death Penalty is not the ultimate! I liked the last line of your comment.... Let nature do its course when it comes to birth and death... Yeah... Seriously!!
