Next Phase for Young Generation

Apr 9, 2015

After going through four novels: Sirish ko Ful, Babu Aama ra Chora,Palpasa Café, Summer Love anyone can make a clear judgment that Nepalese are not literally poor.
The novels of four different ages have equally important meaning today and are competitive enough. The old, 'Sirish ko Ful' is competitive enough to the latest 'Palpasa Café' and has got its own importance. And the recent Summer Love highlights the youths situation in Nepal, and their youthful emotions. Are not these wonderful creations enough to show to the world that we got our own talent made within the country?

It is therefore something really stupid to say that we lack stories for creation of own movies. Nepali movie lacks the Nepali feeling for sure. Wearing Nepali dress and shooting the movie in the village nearby Trishuli probably is not enough to show the Nepali feeling. Although acting requires a proper quality, story counts equally. On the basis of these novels, anyone can claim that there exists a certain weight within our literatures for sure. And we can derive a conclusion that there has to be qualification for the proper output. Parijat, Koirala, Wagle and Bhattarai’s qualification must have contributed for such wonderful creations indeed. Nepali film industry lacks such qualitative story writer. But being a young generation, I can claim that when stories like these are brought into the film industry, young generation will get to feel proud for sure for their domestic film industry. Translation of these literatures in English has made it equally competitive within the globalize market as well.

So we can proudly say that we have the power and capacity. Only the thing we lack is the ability to place right material at the right place by the right person in a right time. Palpasa Café's craze among the teen agers and the young generation must have been clear example stating that we love our originality. There are cases that explains many are deprived of purchasing books or even the illiteracy figure bounds the expansion. However, if writers themselves manage to bring them in audio form, like Achyut Ghimire does or motion picture form, they are likely to get much more attention for sure. Why should directors of Nepali film industry always get influenced from third world movies? Only if they have gone through our Nepalese novels, they would not have had to copy the stories from them but would rather prefer keeping these novels their source of inspiration. All Nepal requires is qualitative hard working honest personalities for the developing trend, and it is my word, Nepalese young generation will definitely prefer them with the required praising and respect. I can imagine the crowd only if Narayan Wagle manages to bring Palpasa Café in a motion picture form. There has to be development of next phase to focus young generation.

The mentioned novels are simply examples. There have been beautiful illustrations of other novels too, which are enough in Nepalese market. It is a risk, but there are worse movies appearing at present. A large number of my friend has listened to Palpasa Café instead of reading. That is they want simplicity. Their experiences tell that they listened the entire book during their travel, during their free time, during holidays, or sitting in park. Not all has the habit of reading it.

The movie of Krishna Dharawasi, Jhola, that explained about Sati tradition was a super hit. How can we forget that it was nominated in various awards as well?  Yes, the movie was liked by large number of youths. It is not possible by any means to attract 100% attention, but that does not mean that there does not exist any group who don’t want to watch Nepali movies at all. Jhola was watched by that group who would barely go to theatres for movies. It was watched by those groups, who were keen on literature. It was watched by that group who wanted to know the social stage that Nepal went through.  Kabaddi was another success, and the reason was that it had Nepali Story in it, without any influence. The story of normal youth in Mustang. Uma showed the period that Nepal went through back during Maoists insurgency.

Nepalese audiences don’t want to see Nepalese in International lifestyle. They want to see their own life style, and this has to be understood. Nepalese film industry has good stories. Nepalese film industry has good and potential actors. Experiments has clearly displayed the success of those movies. It is high time, the movies need to attract current youths. Hollywood and Bollywood should not take entire attention of Nepalese youths. And, for those youths who believe, Nepalese movies can never be better; Yes! Nepali food can never be like Mc Donald’s, but there is different taste in Gundruk Bhaat. If one compares these two foods, only then you have rights to compare Nepalese Movies with others.
