Leh Laddakh - II (Traveling to Pangong Lake)

Dec 13, 2015

So as soon as Dorje told us that we need to hurry up, he would help us in finding vehicle if we were to travel in the night to Sri Nagar. We thought that was better idea, as it would save cost of hotel accommodation, and we would get out of this expensive place. Also, we could spend couple of days in Sri Nagar, being one day a complete rest! Rusen and others were still sleeping there, we hurried them up. We took few Choco Pies as our breakfast, and rushed into Dorje’s vehicle

Phungsuk Wangdu’s School
I am sure all of us remember that school, where Kareena Kapoor was taken, identifying location at Leh, in 3 idiots. We had been to that school too. We wanted to click photo, but Dorje told to do it while returning. We could only see the school from the vehicle itself. On returning, it was late, plus dark. So we could not take any photos of that school.

Breakfast? Maybe Lunch?
This was one fine thing that we had after a real long time. Paratha and sabji! It was cheap too, just worth 30 IRS. And on demanding one roti, with entire set of vegetables, we were charged just Rs 5 extra! Maybe that was lunch for us as well, because we did not get to eat anything later as lunch.

BreAKFast? Nope! Lunch!

Tibetan Influence and Monasteries
On watching various movies, documentaries I had this mindset of Tibet and how it exactly would look like. This was met. I could feel Tibet there. Apart, I could see ‘Free Tibet’ stickers pasted at various vehicles and shops as well. Monasteries were again beautiful. But we did not had enough time to get inside thereby. We could just see them from window of vehicle itself.

Playing with Snow
We had never touched snow before. But, our driver dai stopped at some point, where we could actually gather snow. Oh, I never knew snow were soft as cotton, and we could make a ball of it and hit to others. I earlier used to think they were throwing ice like stuff. This was totally different. There were snow just at few places, where sunlight had not yet reached.
Playing with snow
I also could see, those places, where pouring water was freeze-d due to coldness.

Natural Beauty!
Few horses drinking water from river. White horse was running, because it was chased by some other few horses. Black horse was busy eating grasses. Brown horse was staring at our vehicle. Ahh, that was mesmerizing scene, stored in my memory. Yes, I also saw Yaks, they were in group. Free state, We were in those wild life reserve after all. Plain land, we were riding in the middle of it, both side had beautiful grasses, lakes sometimes, muddy water sometimes. Places were all amazing.

That was the quickest photo I could take of yaks. Zoom In!
Horses at free state!

Oh horses!

Worth Wallpaper?
Driver (Dorje) dai’s talk
With broken Nepali, he kept on speaking throughout the journey.
'I would never come here at Rs 5000, if it was others, just because i heard you speaking Nepali, i did it
'We gave our elder sister to Nepalese, she lives near Kathmandu'
'Did you see the lake just there? There is no water! Oh, Pangong lake is now dry, I am so sorry!' He sometimes used to scare us being funny.
'My sister, my father, mother, elder brother... they all went to trip of Bhutan, Nepal and India, I stayed here to look after home. Once I earn enough, I can visit them all!'
'Do come again to Leh, contact me, I will take you to my house. But come one by one with your wife, I cant manage for everyone and their wives!'

He used to keep on talking, and yes he was the only person we found friendly throughout Leh!
Dorje Dai was giving his guff, continuously

And, as we returned back, we took our dinner at same place where we took our breakfast, and marched towards Srinagar!
