After Faye Dunaway announced that 'La La Land' made the best
picture award, La La Land team were already in jolly and celebration mood.
However only when Horowitz stood up and showed the card to camera which
indicated 'Moonlight' actually was the winner, the case repeated. It was not
just in Miss Universe, when Steve Harvey announced wrong winner, the case
happened in case of Oscars as well.
This award, which was already being boycotted by Iranian
team, for not permitting them to get into the ceremony, got further accused
through this event. However, in the end - it was Moonlight who took away the
Oscar.
Sometimes Oscar gives no reason, why the movie was termed
'Best', and leaves the world puzzled. It was couple of years back when Birdman
was granted Oscar too. Those movies, which truly is difficult to understand, or
those stories, which don't have anything huge story are the ones which gets
judge's attention. Birdman was similar type of movie, which leaves the audience
puzzled - what next?
This year, there were other competing movies. Hidden Figures
and Hacksaw Ridge presented those sides of history, which were never discussed
earlier. Besides showing how war could be fought without using gun or the role
of black in NASA, they also showed a different version. Lion was the movie
which was loved a lot by South Asians - presenting story of Indian child, who
was adapted abroad. The movie was filled up with emotions. Similar drama story
of Fences and Manchester by the sea were into competition. Although Arrival and
La La Land was taken at that huge hype, they could not make it. Hell or High
water was again into cow boy era, in this modern age - and beautifully
presented the brotherly vibes.
Ignoring all these, it was Moonlight, who made it.
Mahershala Ali, made it to best actor in a supporting role
from this very movie as well, turning out first Muslim to make it in Oscars.
Sometimes, the movie may not be of our preference, but we have to admit it.
Moonlight certainly won, because it deserved it. It was not just in Oscars, but
the movie took the award in Golden Globe too. Movies pundits would not term
this as 'greatest Best Picture of all time, with remarkable and personal work
of art'.
Moonlight proved that movie is not all about investment, but
the level of effort and creativity too, because with its $1.5 million budget,
it is also least expensive film thereby. Divided into three parts, this movie
tells a normal life that human beings go through. It tells the story of black
man following the episodes when he was young boy, teenager and an adult.
The childhood shapes the life of any individual till he gets
and turns a real man. The movie has been presented in similar manner, where the
story of Chiron has been presented. Mahershala Ali, who played the role of Juan
takes him with him and gives him the company across. He guides him to be a
better man in the later. By the time he grows up, he could not forget Juan, who
would already be dead and still gets to Juan's house, where his wife would be
living. The movie has the entire story in the end - when this little kid grows
up and turns exactly like Juan, from his get up, body style and his fashion
style.
The movie explains that human beings have something within
their sub conscious mind, that they may not present but always keep it within
them and never expose. This movie also shows how human being wants freedom and get
out of dependent life. It tries to reflect the strength that human beings keep
within them, and get above only when necessary, when no choices are left
beyond. It also shows family is not the only bond that human beings have, there
can be other relations that can take place of family within us. Blood relations
may have different space, but there could be other important relations too. In
the end, this movie explains - teaching is not something about explaining what
to do and what not to do, but something to prove, what you are and how you are.
There could be different reasons why Moonlight was taken
into consideration. Perception is way different anyway, and can be differently
taken by different society and individual. Since the movie has already made its
way to Oscar 'Best Picture' with other awards too, it is advisable to watch the
movie, and get known the aspect - how world sees movies and arts as. Not always
movies need to have strong and emotional story, but realism counts too, and
this aspect is beautifully presented here in the movie - Moonlight, after all
it has 7.8 IMdB rating!
