Segments of Nepali Cinema

May 11, 2018

Image result for choices clip artIndividual choices differs. Even when a bunch of friends goes out for snacks, some prefer momos, some chowmins and some may want something else - that is human behavior; and they are natural behavior of human beings. Nepalese movies are not any different either.

After Sano Sansar and Kagbeni entered Nepalese cinemas; that level of semi fraction had been introduced. Those capable and skillful actors from theaters started gaining position in Nepalese movie industry. Under the direction of Nischal Basnet, when Loot made revolution in 2012 making box office collection of 5.6 crores; the trend of Nepalese movies entirely changed. New set of actors, new set of technicians and new group started gaining space within the country dividing Nepalese Film Industry into two fractions. Be it Pashupati Prasad, or Chakka Panja – they set an example to entire industry.
Someone correctly said, if the movie, or book does not attract you, tat movie or book is not made for you. There is not any good or bad categorization. So, if the movie does not attract you, all you need to realize is that movie is not made for you. After all, we don't have same taste.Image result for segments
Rajesh Hamal is still a super star, when it comes to Nepali movie industry. That screaming sound of Hamal will still energize one bunch of Nepali mass. Nikhil Uprety is still a loved ones among one mass. That mass is really concerned about where Sanchita Luitel is right now; and worried about Saroj Khanal. So, if Biraj Bhatta gets out of Nepali movie, they will wonder about him. The craze over these star has one separate mass, where Rekha Thapa is hit, where Arunima Lamsal is hit, where Karishma Manandhar will be searched or where Richa Ghimire will be looked. Be it Tulsi Ghimire or Ashok Sharma; they have been successfully been able to satisfy these bunch of movie lovers.

Ashok Sharma or Chabi Raj Ojha - They know how to get into the market. They understand majority's need and know the means to commercialize. As a result; they produce movies which the huge bunch would appreciate; and are entirely business minded. These movies are made for those mass, who don't have huge craze over hollywoods or even bollywoods. However, Nischal Basnet, Asim Shah on the other hand are risk takers - who will either be at the top or someone just down flop. They are experimental, who have been experimenting Nepalese audiences and Nepalese movies; and who are looking for creative approach to get into. They are the change makers anyway.

Somewhere between these two bunch; there came the next category who has been looking into separate mass. Those, who came out from small banner making a huge banner - Chakka Panja team should not be ignored. They caught up the attention of large mass in the end. They don't have any target group; but entire range turned out to be their target group in the end. Next huge revolution and inspiration in the end.

They have successfully introduced new talents from Anchal Sharma, Samragyee Shah to Paul Shah. And, they have been doing wonderful business within and abroad too.
Obviously; there are separate masses for separate categories. This should be appreciated; because our domestic production are being able to gather one separate mass for each categories. There might be some masses who have been stilling missing; but the seeing the positive side, our movie industry has been growing. No longer does Nepalese curse our industry; they have right to criticize; but the best thing is we all watch our own Nepali movie one way or the other. While a bunch might be waiting for next movie of Anmol KC, the next might be curious if Loot 3 will be there or not; or while a group might eagerly be wondering about Nikhil Upreti’s new movie; next should be wondering what would Chakka Panja team come up next.
We do watch Bollywood, we do watch Hollywood – but we have started watching our own Nepali movie too – and that is something progressive for our industry in the end.
