Confusion and Dilemma

Sep 30, 2014

Which one do you think is important: Customer satisfaction or Maximizing Sales?

Customers view: Customers Satisfaction
Organizational View: Both
Sales Persons View: Maximize Sales

Now, you are aware about the fact that this lot of your product is not as good as it was of past. You are the marketing manager, what would you opt for? If you go for increasing sales, you may lose customers, because the customers would not be satisfied. If you look for customer satisfaction, maybe there would be loss for the organization.

This is the state of confusion. Confusion can be minimized, by knowledge and experience.
As a student of Marketing, at these times maximization of sales would never be best idea. You could get profit through sales, but what after this time? Once the customer get dissatisfied, they would go for the substitutes. Hence, either the entire lot can be destroyed, or these products could be sold under different promotional campaigns. Maybe, something like Buy one and Get other Free! They could be used for sponsorship, like if they are Fast Moving Consumers Good (FMCG), on any events they could provide it for their promotional things.

Now, imagine the condition when you are Manager of a company. There is a lady staff there, who is regular, punctual and works very well in the organization. She took a month leave just a month ago at the time of her delivery. And, now she is not able to attend the office because her newly born baby is ill. It has already been 15 days that she is not attending office. Because of her absence, other staffs have to work overtime and take more burdens. The condition of new baby is not showing to improve, and her presence is yet uncertain!

What would be the right decision at this time? Fire Her? Or, give an excuse?

Firing Her: Her irregular presence is really an obstacle and burden for organization as well as other staffs. So, if the decision is made on firing her, and hiring new, that would help others.
Giving Excuse: Since the situation was beyond her control, as humanity, giving excuse would not be a bad idea.

Now dilemma is that situation when the choices you have is not satisfactory, and you would not be satisfied at any condition. Here, what you take is not right, and is not wrong too. You can always defend yourself, stating reasons. But, somewhere within you, you are not happy with the decision that you took.

So, confusion is that state where you can make good decision. You can always learn, and make decisions. Your experience, your knowledge can take you towards the path of good decision. But, in dilemma you are not satisfied with any of the choices!
Life is filled up with confusions; make sure that you take proper decision when you are confused, and don’t mingle confusion with dilemma.
