Helping Earthquake victims at Bela VDC of Kavre

May 16, 2015

As our third project, on May 14, we went to Bela VDC of Kavre district. This place is located 56 km away from Kathmandu.
After ending the road, the village had to be walked for 45 minutes. 30 family member were granted following items:

Blanket                                 30 pieces (1 piece per family)
Tarpaulin                             30 pieces (1 piece per family)
Handiplast                           120 pieces (4 pieces per family)
Dettol                                   30 bottles (1 bottle per family)
Sanitary Pad                       60 pieces (2 pieces per family)
Cotton                                  30 pieces (1 piece per family)
Bathing Soap                      60 pieces (2 pieces per family)
Washing Soap                    60 pieces (2 pieces per family)
Toothbrush                        90 pieces (3 pieces per family)
Toothpaste                         30 units (1 piece per family)
Shampoo Sachet              150 sachets (5 sachets per family)
The houses were in worse state, as they were basically made up of mud and brick. There were cracks, and the peoples were staying outside the house. We could see few houses completely broken as well.
Blanket and Tarpaulin was collected with the help of Rotary Club of Kastamandap. KU students helped in collection of 20 Tarpaulin. The villagers were happy seeing the effort made by students and were overwhelmed. They took care of our lunch, which was of local village taste. Every volunteers loved it, and also bid us farewell by granting cold drinks.
The trip was tiring one, as we had loads of stuff to carry from Kathmandu, via public bus and also we had to carry them down till the village. Few villagers came up to the road to help us in carrying them.
